Mission Statement

Totara Glen Nurseries provides hardy ecologically sourced native plants for supply throughout New Zealand. We aim to supply the best quality plants, on time, that exceed our customer’s expectations at all times. We advocate and promote conservation by providing for the rehabilitation of our natural environment through ‘partnering’ with key industry leaders and developing long-term, mutually beneficial relationships.

Philip Smith – (B Hort. Sc.)

Managing Director

Philip is a leader in the industry with more than 35 Years Native Plant Nursery experience. He was Managing Director of Taupo Native Plant Nursery, one of New Zealand’s leading native plant providers, from 1995 to 2014. Philip’s experience is unrivalled in the industry, and he provides significant expertise in, seed collection, propagation, production, planning, customer liaison and Health & Safety. He is also very involved in the day-to-day operations and the strategic direction of The Company.

Philip is and has also been involved in numerous industry associations including but not limited to:

  • Past President and International Director for The New Zealand Region of the International Plant Propagators Society

  • Past chairman of the Indigenous Forest Section of The New Zealand Farm Forestry Association

  • Past Committee member of the Growers Sector of The Nursery and Garden Industry Association of New Zealand
